Dumbarton Oaks is an estate in Georgetown. It houses an eclectic collection of Byzantine and Pre-Columbian art, early modern European decorative arts, rare books, and extensive grounds. The Byzantine collection is particularly extensive and includes over 12,000 coins and 13,000 lead seals, some of which can be seen via an online exhibition.
Harvard owns 16 acres of the original estate, including the landscaped gardens closest to the main residence. The museum is open to the public and the libraries are accessible to researchers.
