The Center for the History of Medicine has a vast collection of rare books, specimens, medical instruments, and art. The Center holds approximately 20 million items in its manuscript collections, making it the largest collection of medical records and memorabilia in the US. The collection also includes 100,000 prints and photographs, along with a smaller collection of fine art and other material objects.

In addition to housing the Warren Anatomical Museum and the Archives for Women in Medicine, the Center is responsible for several collections of material objects at Harvard Medical School and the Boston Medical Library. These include,

  • Manfred Kraemer Collection of Medical Prints and Satires
  • Hyams Collection of Medical Judaica
  • Christian Deetjen Library on Witchcraft
  • Incunabula and Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts
  • Collection of Mendicant Literature
