The Ernst Mayr Library holds research materials associated with the Museum of Comparative Zoology. Most of its holdings are recent books and periodicals. The library also holds 15,000 rare books in its special collections division, along with the MCZ archives, the Romer Library of Vertebrate Paleontology, and a collection of portraits of important scientists.
The Ernst Mayr Library is sometimes called the Agassiz Library. It was renamed for the world-famous evolutionary biologist (and Harvard professor) Ernst Mayr in 1995.
