The Arnold Arboretum cultivates over 7,000 accessioned plant specimens on 265 acres in Jamaica Plain. In addition to its living specimens, the Arboretum houses a 40,000-volume library on the history and practice of botany and horticulture and an extensive photographic collection. An additional 5 million preserved plant specimens are housed at the Harvard University Herbaria in Jamaica Plain and Cambridge.
